SMILE\-FX® / Orthodontic Mouthguard Fit Guide

# Sports mouthguards: fabrication and today's fit

For young people and families during orthodontic care

“Custom” names a fabrication origin\. It is separate from a present\-fit finding\.

[The fabrication labels](<https://orthodonticmouthguardguide.com/#fabrication>) · [One completed record](<https://orthodonticmouthguardguide.com/#supplied-record>) · [Your next conversation](<https://orthodonticmouthguardguide.com/#care-action>)

## Start with how the guard was made

### Stock

Ready\-made\.

### Mouth\-formed

Adapted to the mouth\.

### Custom

Made using an individual dental model\.

Tooth movement, baby\-tooth shedding and permanent\-tooth eruption can change fit\. Appliances and rapidly changing mixed dentition require individual consideration\.

An example: earlier records and today’s fit

## Read the earlier and later entries together

These entries are supplied for explanation\. They are not a person’s clinical record or a recommendation\.

### Earlier entry

Fabrication on an individual dental model is recorded\.

### Later entry

A clinician records tooth\-position changes\.

### Present entry

No current\-fit result is supplied\.

### What the entries establish

The entries establish individual\-model fabrication and later tooth\-position change\. They record neither successful initial fit nor present fit\. Today’s context matters, but change does not establish failure or replacement need\.

Keep the actual wording of a record available for your conversation\. This example explains a record; it is not a self\-fit test\.

## A separate sports\-protection conversation

For the separate school\-equipment and clinical\-responsibility questions, read the [Teen guide’s sports\-protection discussion](<https://teenbracesbroward.com/sports-music-and-events#sports-protection>) \.

## Keep the next conversation with the right team

Already receiving orthodontic care? Use your treating team’s established contact and individual instructions for your current care\.

SMILE\-FX® offers full\-service digital orthodontics with a clear\-aligner focus\. Board\-certified orthodontists see patients throughout care, including follow\-ups\.

For a new orthodontic conversation, an optional free in\-person consultation is available at the Miramar studio\. This is an orthodontic request, not a mouthguard fitting or supply appointment\.

[Request a free in\-person orthodontic consultation](<https://www.smile-fx.com/lp/free-consult/?utm_source=orthodontic-mouthguard-fit-guide&utm_medium=microsite&utm_campaign=smile-fx-guides>)

The team confirms the appointment and individual scope\. A request does not establish an assessment or case acceptance\.
